DURBAN hosted the SASA-II national age group summer games from 11th to 17th April at The Kings Park pool.
The participating provinces were Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape, North West, Western Cape and the hosts KwaZulu-Natal. This is an annual event for persons with an intellectual disability, from any of the mentioned provinces competed in the codes of blackball, cricket, hockey, indoor rowing, swimming and table tennis.
Jamie Smeeton, son of Ali Smeeton (managing director of I Can!) competed and won the best under 13 male swimmer with Down Syndrome. Our Durban North Academy volunteered as timekeepers for two of the days.
The South African Sports Association for the Intellectually Impaired (SASA-II) serves as the governing body in matters pertaining to the amateur sporting activities for all intellectually impaired persons who belong to the association.
